late nights and politics

so i had a discussion with mom last night about the upcoming election and politics. i wouldn't call it an argument, more of a defense of different stances. as we had this conversation i realized how uneducated i was when it comes to the realm of politics. i thought i knew my fair share. i thought i had a good grasp on my views. i don't though. i need to learn more. i need to know what's going in the world around me, and most importantly, i need to be able to interpret it from a Biblical standpoint. that was one of the things that shocked me the most about myself... i realized i didn't have solid scriptural backing for what i believed. i'm going to get better at this. i'm going to study the issues through the eyes of Christ. what's really right?

there will be more to come on these issues...

In my studies of politics, I love immensely political science itself, but am totally turned off to most political involvement in light of the evident impact damnation has had on people's ability to carry on in political circumstance.

I encourage you to read as much as you can, but don't read from one side only. Read on Obama, read on McCain, read on the history of the Democratic party when a Democratic president is in office at the same time as a Democratic congress, read about the GOP's failure to achieve it's widely stated goal's of tax reforms and smaller government, but most importantly, read Christ, read what YOU are to do for this world, how you should live. It's not so much important who you vote for, but what you do about the things within your power to change. While it would be nice to believe that both major candidates are honest about their want of change (and to some extent they are), history tells us that they will, upon reaching office, either turn face, or forget what they first promised. Sadly, in the bipartisan system that we have now, nothing much of importance will ever change quickly. We need to abandon the norm and return to a truly free government as our founding fathers wished. Lastly, read Adam Smith, and John Maynard Keynes. If you have time, that is :)
